Finite Element Analysis
Static simulation of parts.
We decided to conduct a static simulation using SolidWorks on the lever to see where it will fail.
The material used was Aluminum 6061 T6.
These were the boundary conditions used for our lever when a maximum load of 500 lbs total is applied, and thus the spring is compressed fully.
This was the result of the dispacement. These results were as expected.
The displacement showed convergence, suggesting that our model is valid.
This was the result of the von-Mises stress.
The mesh in the fillet area, where the maximum stress was found, was further refined and demonstrated convergence.
The values converge at less than 10 MPa, which is less than the yield strength of Aluminum 6061 T6, or 275 MPa. Therefore, our lever is safe.
